This year’s Class of 2011 is made up of a variety of professionals who live and/or work in Redondo Beach. We have decided on a community project that capitalizes on the momentum behind the Blue Zones Project initiative in the beach cities. A Beach Cities Health District project, Blue Zones Project aims to improve the health and well-being of residents and employees by engaging the community in a variety of research-based, health-related activities. The project will officially start January 6, 2012, and it is our goal to be completed by Labor Day 2012.
Our project has two focus areas:
(1) Register 4,500 people who live or work in Redondo Beach on the Blue Zones Project website which links residents and employees to resources and activities that can get them started on their way to a healthier life. We plan to make ourselves visible at a variety of events around Redondo Beach over the course of the project.
(2) Fundraise, purchase, and install as many bicycle racks as possible within the City of Redondo Beach, by September 3, 2012. Our goal for this side of the project is to raise at least $22,000 to install somewhere upwards of 40 bike racks to accommodate 80 bicycles.
